A SON will succeed his late father on South Holland District Council in Long Sutton District Ward.
Dennis Tennant recently died and his son, Andrew, contested his old seat at Thursday’s by-election.
Andrew, an Independent, polled 946 votes while Conservative rival Jack Tyrell polled 757.
Some 1,714 ballot papers were issued but 11 were spoilt.
The by-election for Fleet District saw Conservative Peter Coupland elected with 285 votes, beating Independent Valery Gemmell who polled 233. Some 522 ballot papers were issued and four were spoilt. The election was held following the resignation of Shaun Keeble.
Turnout was 27.3 per cent at Long Sutton and 28.2 per cent at Fleet.
