HOLBEACH’s Youth Centre is all set to be opened up so that everyone in the community, regardless of age, will be able to use its sports and social facilities.

The former school building in Boston Road will continue to function primarily as a youth centre after it has been handed over to the Holbeach Youth Centre Trust by Lincolnshire County Council.

But its coffee bar, music room, ping pong and snooker tables as well as the large multi-function sports hall that takes three badminton courts, will be made available to the general public to maximise its use.

County councillor for the Holbeach division Nick Worth said: “This is a great opportunity for Holbeach, to make the most of some excellent facilities that are little known to many older people in the town.

“Younger people will benefit too with more opportunities to take part in a range of activities. Once formal handover from Lincolnshire County Council has taken place in the next few months, we can move ahead.

“We have some new trustees who are keen to move on and make a real difference with opportunities for everyone.”

The Holbeach Youth Centre Trust, which owns the sports hall at the back of the youth club, put in the only bid for running of the whole building when Lincolnshire County Council sought other organisations to take over all the county’s youth centres.

To make the youth centre sustainable in the longer term this will mean all the facilities, including the hidden gem of the sports hall, will be made available to adults and community groups as well as younger people.

The Trustees are looking for more volunteers to help run the youth club on a Friday night,

nFor more details or bookings, email Anthony.Pearson@lincolnshire.gov.uk, telephone 01406 422305, or call in to the centre Wednesday or Thursday morning.
