A SMALL manufacturing company based in south Lincolnshire has just completed work on a large export order to China worth just under £400,000.

Frognall-based Garford Farm Machinery Ltd has built four Garford Victor 6 Hydro Sugar Beet Harvesters which were ordered in April by the Bo Tian Sugar Industry Company in China.

Garford Farm Machinery has seen a large upturn in export sales in the last 18 months with both its sugar beet harvesters and computer guided weeding equipment being exported to countries such as China, Chile, Canada, Australia, USA, New Zealand as well as the expanding European market.

The firm is obviously very pleased with the way the export market is increasing, especially in the current climate.

Managing director Philip Garford said: “The recent success reflects the continuing hard work from our staff in difficult economic circumstances”.

The Victor 6 Hydro Sugar Beet Harvester is a quality harvesting system in a package giving high output and economy.

In combination with a tractor of 135HP the six-row harvester will achieve work rates consistent with self propelled six-row harvesters but with much lower running costs.

In British Sugar’s harvester demonstrations and quality harvesting assessments the Victor has consistently achieved lower harvesting losses than other makes of sugar beet harvesters. It also has dramatically lower fuel consumption than a typical self propelled harvester and is fully hydraulically driven for lower machine maintenance.

Garford is a family-run company, employing 21 staff who have all contributed to the success of the Garford Victor Sugar Beet Harvester.

Michael Garford, Design and Technical Director, commented “We are proud to have such hard working local, enthusiastic employees who are key to our success in the farming community.

“Our products are gaining a great reputation within the UK and Europe and we look forward to expanding into new markets in the future.”
