Residents in South Holland and the Deepings can be confident about the future following the Chancellor of the Exchequer’s Autumn Review, according to MP John Hayes.
Taking a short break from meetings following George Osborne’s announcements, Mr Hayes said: “The news tax credits are not being cut is excellent news for families in the area because, in spite of high levels of employment, many are in middle or lower paid jobs.
“The economy is strong enough to do that now and we are getting public spending under control - in fact no economy in G7 is growing faster than Britain’s.
“The fact that there will be no cuts in police budgets is encouraging and the continued ring-fencing of NHS budgets will help local healthcare.
“The rise in the state pension to £119.30 will also be welcomed by pensioners, who are now £1,000 better off than when we came into power.
“In my area (Security Minister) there has also been good news in the light of the recent incidents in Paris and, before that, Egypt.
“Counter-terrorism budgets are to rise 30 per cent with 1,900 more jobs in security. Together with no cuts in police budgets, this is really good news.”
Residents are being asked to complete a survey on what they think Lincolnshire County Council’s services priorities should be, following the Autumn Review.
Coun Marc Jones, executive councillor for finance at the county council, said: “The Chancellor has announced that councils with adult social care responsibilities will be able to increase council tax by an extra two per cent. However as a county with low council tax rates, if we choose to do this we will still only raise a relatively small amount of additional income compared to the additional cost pressures we are facing.”
