A MOTORIST has admitted causing the death of two elderly sisters during a road collision on the A52 at Donington.
Robin Settle (55) pleaded guilty to two charges of causing death by dangerous driving when he appeared at Lincoln Crown Court on Wednesday.
Pamela Moore (82), of Grosvenor Mews, Billingborough, and her sister Eileen Williams (83), of Stafford, died following the collision on Bridge End Causeway.
Settle, who appeared in the dock at Lincoln Crown Court on crutches, admitted causing both deaths by dangerous driving on October 28, last year.
Alan Wheetman, defending, said Settle believed a car on the opposite side of the road had crossed into his carriageway but having seen an accident report he now accepted that must be wrong.
Mr Wheetman told the court Settle was a man of good character except for one speeding matter and asked for sentence to be adjourned for the preparation of a probation report.
“He thoroughly accepts this matter passes custody threshold,” Mr Wheetman added.
“Those who know him have concerns of how he will cope in a custodial environment.
“He is also the sole carer of a disabled wife.”
Judge Sean Morris agreed to adjourn sentence for the preparation of a report but warned Settle: “Your barrister is quite right, this passes the custody threshold.”
“You have been very well advised indeed. You were wise to take this decision. The evidence here was overwhelming,” Judge Morris added.
Settle, of Cherry Walk, Boston, was granted bail until he is sentenced at Lincoln Crown Court on September 17.
