While he was in the Army Alan Crane gained all the skills needed to offer educational and medical rehabilitation to soldiers, as well as devising a physical programme to help with psychiatric problems.
He also became a ski instructor to equip soldiers with the skills needed for winter warfare, and coached physical fitness to soldiers destined for Northern Ireland.
It meant that when Alan left the Army he had the right experience to set up his own adventure school, something he and his wife Jackie ran for ten years. During that time they made 5,000 dives all over the world before going to Indonesia and teaching people to dive with sharks.
