Council taxpayers in Bourne and The Deepings face a 3.58 per cent hike as South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) seeks to protect its frontline services.

If adopted, the increase will put £5 a year on SKDC’s current band D rate of £127.47 – but other costs will be added to the final bill, such as police, county council and parish council charges. SKDC is consulting on the proposed rise until February 4 and anyone can comment by visiting https://www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/counciltax201617

The council says its proposed increase will raise an extra £227,000 a year to “continue to provide frontline services”. The district has frozen its share of council tax since 2013 but Coun Terl Bryant says, since 2010, the amount received from central Goverment has dropped by more than £4million and, by 2020, the council expects to receive zero.

Council leader Bob Adams said the council tax rise and £1million savings “will allow us to deliver the services our customers expect from us.”
