Elderly people in South Holland are being warned about nuisance callers after reports of phone calls from companies involved in green energy schemes.
Citizens Advice South Lincolnshire has made the warning in an attempt to raise awareness of “green rogue traders”.
Citizens Advice counsellors have dealt with complaints about persistent phone cold messages which involved “free gas boilers”
A Citizens Advice South Lincolnshire spokesman said: “The calls appear to target pensioners, some of whom have been wrongly told that their current boiler will be illegal unless it is replaced by the end of 2016.”
“As a result. we have had to deal with anxiety amongst elderly, vulnerable householders.”
There have also been reports of pensioners receiving poor service after purchasing solar panels.
The spokesman said: “One client bought panels which were faulty, only to learn that the companies which carried out the installation had gone into liquidation, meaning they could not claim on the guarantee.
“Another claimed he was harassed into buying panels through a very expensive loan and Citizens Advice South Lincolnshire was able to intervene and get him a refund.”
