A CALL to boost police numbers in Spalding is to be made to continue the fight against booze and drug-fuelled behaviour in the town.
The plea by South Holland District Council and Lincolnshire Police for the county’s policing budget to be increased will be put before the Government by John Hayes, MP for South Holland and the Deepings.
Lincolnshire Police has one of the smallest budgets in England and Wales at just under £40 million for 2012/13, compared to just over £50 million for Cambridgeshire Constabulary.
Mr Hayes said: “We are one of the worst funded police authorities in the country and although we don’t have some of the problems associated with more urban areas, it’s not a good enough reason for us not to have the funds to maintain public order.”
