A teenager who beat up a man in front of his wife and 15-month-old son has been banned from drinking in Spalding and Holbeach for six months.
But Jay Power (19) was spared prison after the unprovoked, daytime attack.
Power was caught on CCTV as he punched and kicked Dale Chapman (39) after leaving the Black Swan pub in Westlode Street.
Lincoln Crown Court heard Power carried out the unprovoked attack after he left the pub with a friend and one of them stumbled into Mr Chapman, who was walking past with his partner and their son in a pushchair.
The court heard Power shouted “What did you say” after Mr Chapman said “excuse me” to the pair.
Andrew Scott, prosecuting, told the court Power walked away but then seemed to change his mind.Mr Scott said:
“Mr Chapman turned around and was confronted by Power, who grabbed him by his right arm, swung him round and then punched his left eye.
“Mr Chapman tried to pull down his hood but fell to the floor and was then kicked several times to the back of the head.”
Mr Scott told the court a witness to the attack saw Power begin to walk away and then return to continue his assault on Mr Chapman.
Mr Chapman eventually ran in to a nearby shop.
He suffered a cut above his left eye which left a small scar and several bumps on the back of his head.
Power was restrained until the police arrived but during interview admitted he had little recollection of the incident.
The licencee of the Black Swan told police she had asked Power to leave the pub after he appeared “half gone.”
Liz Hart, mitigating, told the court Power had no previous experience of custody.
The defendant, of Fishpond Lane, Holbeach, admitted assault causing actual bodily harm to Dale Chapman on July 6.
He was sentenced to 12 months in a young offenders’ institution suspended for two years and ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work in the community.
He was also ordered to pay Mr Chapman £150 compensation and made the subject of an order which prevents him from drinking in Spalding and Holbeach for six months.
Passing sentence Recorder Simon Drew QC told Power he was a “timebomb waiting to go off”.
“You lost your rag with someone who had done and said nothing wrong,” Recorder Drew added.
“In sight of his wife and child in a pushchair, in the middle of the street, in the middle of the day, you just attacked him.”
