The public have the chance to quiz the Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner candidates at an event on Thursday.
A Question Time style “hustings” will be taking place at Haven High’s Marion Road campus, Boston, from 7pm.
Ahead of the event each candidate was offered the chance to put across – in their own 500 words – why they deserve your support at the election.
Police and Crime Commissioners are a new idea for England and Wales and the first incumbents will take their posts in November of this year.
They will be elected representatives whose aim is to secure the maintenance of an efficient and effective police force within their area (ours being Lincolnshire), and to hold the Chief Constable to account.
Police and Crime Commissioners will be charged with overseeing police funds and raising the local policing precept from council tax.
They will be responsible for the appointment and any suspension or dismissal of the Chief Constable. Along with the Chief Constable, they will also create a plan which includes objectives for policing, resources and measuring performance.
The first elections take place on November 15.
