ARMED police swooped into Long Sutton on Monday following reports of a man with a gun.
Police received a call at 8.53pm reporting a man in possession of a gun in the town’s Market Place.
A spokesman for Lincolnshire Police said: “In accordance with standard protocol, the force control room organised a firearms response and armed officers attended the location to conduct a stop search on the man, which was negative.
“Further routine enquiries are ongoing in relation to both the caller and the man involved and, at this stage, we are treating it as a false call but are unable to confirm whether it was made with good intent or for malicious purposes.”
The road was not closed.
