UPDATE: Praise for bus driver in Halmergate crash

Tuesday, 10.50am: Police say it was lucky no one was seriously hurt in a crash involving a school bus.

About 50 secondary school children were on board when a Fowlers bus was in an accident on Halmergate, Spalding, last Wednesday.

Pc Emma Mason praised the driver who led the children to safety. No one was seriously injured but some suffered minor whiplash type injuries.

The driver of a green BMW, which burst into flames after the crash, was arrested on suspicion of drink-driving and failing to stop and bailed until November 25.
Pc Mason said: “We still need to speak to anyone who saw the BMW before the crash or the collision itself.”

Thursday, 10.30AM: Police have confirmed three cars and one bus were involved in the crash

Officers have now said that the vehicles involved were one Fowlers bus, a green BMW, a grey Volvo S40 and a silver Vauxhall Zafira.

The green BMW was destroyed after it burst into flames, the grey Volvo was badly damaged in the accident, but it is believed the Zafira was not badly damaged and was able to leave the scene.

THURSDAY 9AM: A driver has been bailed after two buses and two cars crashed in Halmergate, Spalding.

The road was closed for more than two hours on Wednesday after the accident near the junction with Cley Hall Drive.

Police say a green BMW, two buses and a silver Vauxhall Zafira were involved.

The BMW caught fire and the occupants left the scene.

A 27-year-old local man was arrested shortly afterwards on suspicion of driving whilst unfit through drink and of failing to stop at the scene of an accident. He has been released on bail until November 25.

A second local man, aged 30, was arrested for possession of cannabis and for a public order offence. He has been reported for summons.

None of the other drivers were injured.

WEDNESDAY 5.30PM: A driver has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of an accident after a crash in Spalding today.

Four vehicles, including at least one bus, were involved in the crash on Halmergate just before 4pm.

One of the vehicles, a BMW car, burst into flames after the crash but Lincolnshire Police confirmed no one was hurt.
