A TEENAGE motorist who crashed on a Midlands motorway has been ordered to pay £600 and banned from driving for 12 months.

Royal Marine Daniel Craig Chapman had 92 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood, 12mg over the legal limit.

He pleaded guilty before Nuneaton magistrates on Tuesday to driving a Renault Clio with excess alcohol on the M42 northbound at Dordon in Warwickshire on September 22.

Prosecutor Colin Heald said the Renault was involved in a traffic collision on the northbound carriageway, just after junction ten, at about 7pm.

A breath test proved positive and Chapman accepted the option of having a blood test.

The 19-year-old, of Main Road, Deeping St Nicholas, told magistrates: “I am guilty. I am not a massive drinker.

“I am a specialist driver and my licence is quite important.”

He was fined £500 and told to pay £85 prosecution costs anda £15 victim surcharge.

The disqualification period will be reduced by three months if Chapman completes a drink-driver rehabilitation course by May 29, 2013.
