They’re making giant strides for Children in Need at Pinchbeck’s Spar Shop tomorrow – come in to support them any time between 7am and 7pm.
Last year tireless fundraisers among the 20 staff stepped out on a treadmill to make £1,100 for the TV charity day, and the previous year they raised £800 by taking turns riding a cycling machine non-stop for 12 hours.
This year the Cross family-owned store has bought a Strider fitness machine specially for its 2012 instore sporty challenge.
Just like on previous years, customers are already paying £1 each to guess how many strides the staff will take on their 12-hour relay effort at the back of the store.
Whoever guesses closest wins £50 to spend in the store.
Tomorrow, for one day only, the Spar Shop will follow its Pudsey Bear rule by selling a whole range of goods at cost price, in the hope that customers will donate the difference to the charity.
And for the first time there will also be an instant raffle with some fantastic prizes donated by the store’s suppliers.
For 50p a ticket, you stand to walk out of the store with one of 13 England football shirts, one of two M & Ms dispensers, a huge teddy bear, wine or chocolates.
Event organiser Darrel Cross said: “Our customers are always really generous and every year there’s a great atmosphere around the store.
“But I don’t like to take money from people, even for charity, without giving them something in return. That’s what the raffle and the prize for guessing are about.
“Our Children in Need effort has got bigger and better year by year. I hope as many people as possible will come along and join in.”
