Motorists who leave cars running with the keys in to defrost windscreens are easy pickings for thieves, police have warned.
A number of cars were stolen in South Holland and the Deepings in past years by opportunist thieves who pounced when motorists left their cars running on the drive.
Sgt Stuart Hurst said: “Leaving cars runnning with the keys in is easy pickings for thieves.
“There are a number of things motorists can do to prepare for frosty weather, such as making sure they have de-icer in.
“If cars are stolen we will do our bit to bring the culprits to justice, but motorists should be warned insurance companies won’t pay out if vehicles are stolen or damaged with the keys left in.”
