New requirements affecting growers who employ casual labour come into force from April next year – and employers need to be prepared.
New requirements from HMRC, called RTI or Real Time Information, mean employers will be legally required to submit electronic returns of payroll data on these workers, according to a business adviser.
The information will have to be submitted on either the next return that the employer is required to file or seven days following the date of payment, whichever is the sooner, showing the number of contracted hours by employee by banding each time a return is made.
Even employing one person for one day will be subject to this new online filing requirement, according to Mike Harrison, partner in the Rural Business Group. He says all casual labour will need to be included on the payroll, and all existing rules regarding casual labour will be superseded.
