UPDATE THURSDAY 5PM: About 500 homes in South Holland are facing a night without power after losing their supply earlier today.

Engineers from Western Power Distribution are working frantically to fix a fault with an overhead power line that has left homes in Cowbit, Moulton Chapel and Weston Hills with no electricity.

But Western Power spokesman Michael Clarke said he was unable to give an exact time when residents would have their power back because the field where the power line is located is currently flooded.

He said: “Weather conditions have deteriorated throughout the day which has caused some issued and delayed some of the work our engineers were trying to do to repair the fault.

“The field where the faulty equipment is located is flooded which has made things quite difficult to get to.

“We’re still out there and the repairs are still ongoing, but I don’t have any timescale of when things will change.”

Mr Clarke confirmed that power generators were being brought to site as a back-up in case engineers are unable to repair the power line tonight.

THURSDAY 12 NOON: About 600 homes in South Holland are without electricity at the moment after a power cut hit the area this morning.

Energy company Western Power Distribution say a fault with overhead network equipment has led to homes in Cowbit, Moulton Chapel and Weston Hills losing power from just after 10.30am.

Engineers are currently working on the problem and Western Power spokesman Michael Clarke said power has been restored to about 100 homes in the area.

He said: “We were made aware of the problem just after 10.30am and engineers were despatched to the area straight away to work on the fault which has been located to a piece of equipment in the overhead network.

“We’re looking to get all properties restored with power by this afternoon and we’ll continue to work on that until we fully repair the fault.”
