Lincolnshire Police have welcomed new legislation which makes stalking a stand-alone criminal offence for the first time.
The Home Office announced the changes, which also include a new offence of stalking involving a fear of violence, last week in a move to improve victims’ safety.
Campaigners had long claimed dealing with stalking under existing harassment laws was inadequate.
Lincolnshire Police’s Det Supt Rick Hatton said: “We would encourage victims of stalking and harassment to report what is happening as the impact on victims, families and communities can be devastating.
“We will work with our partners to ensure offenders are held to account and victims get the best support available.”
