by David Norton
Vice-resident of Spalding and District Area Chamber of Commerce
Please come into Spalding town centre on Saturday for this years Christmas Festival between 10amand 6pm.
It is organised by Spalding and District Chamber of Commerce, and in particular, Jan Whitbourn (Tulip Radio), Darrel Simpson (Hills Department Store) and David Norton (Springfields).
Between them they have arranged a programme of activities and entertainment, to be followed by the arrival of Santa and the Flower Queen to switch on the lights at approximately 4.45pm.
The new LED Christmas lights in the town centre, and along part of the riverside, are sure to attract attention and we really will have a display this year that we can be proud of.
Networking Event
On Thursday, November 15, Chamber hosted an evening at the Broad Street Business Centre, organised by Tony Wright (Lance Media). The event was sponsored by Calthrops Solicitors and Craig Delegeny gave a short presentation, highlighting their personal approach to legal matters. Forty businesses took part.
Parking Changes
Next Wednesday “on-street parking” enforcement commences. This will be a shock to many of us who have not had to worry if we overstayed our time limit or, on occassions dared to park illegally on a single time restricted yellow line. Lincolnshire County Council are employing Parking Enforcement Officers. So make your staff and customers aware of these changes. The result should be to free up parking spaces to allow shoppers to find convenient parking for quick visits.
Town Centre Projects
The Council asked Chamber to put forward projects that would market and promote the town centre. Chamber have consulted with its members and will meet with SHDC’s Economic Development Team in early December to discuss and agree priority projects, including the appointment of a Town Centre Manager; a permanent five day craft market, new events, town centre signage and CCTV.
Finally, I know I’m repeating myself, but please support your local shops this Christmas.
