Co-op customers are enjoying a £4million pay out, including a bonus £1.7million just in time for Christmas.
In Lincolnshire Co-operative’s southern area, which includes South Holland, 16,260 members will share an extra £157,840 on December 1 and this is on top of the £210,460 paid on dividend cards.
The society spread £104,516 among 1,256 community groups in 2011/2012, including £550 to the Lighthouse Community in Spalding, which looks after disadvantaged young people. The Lighthouse charity splashed the cash on a washing machine.
Other good causes getting big pay days were:
l Fosdyke Playing Field – £1,000 for a swing set and safety surfacing
l Events and Entertainment, Long Sutton – £600 for hiring a re-enactment group and toilets for its free entertainment weekend
l South Holland Concerts – £500 for artists’ fees
l Gosberton Flower Festival Committee – £500 towards its 2013 festival
l 1st Long Sutton Scout Group – £500 to kit out its new Internet suite and improve the hall
Cash was also spent on alcohol awareness programmes at Spalding High Academy and Kirton Middlecott School.
