ACE students from a Long Sutton school have had their moment in the spotlight.
The Peele Community College celebrated its 2012 ACE Evening on Thursday, when more than 500 parents, carers, governors, students and staff gathered to see the presentation of awards to current Year 10 and 11 pupils, as well as the Class of 2012.
The guest of honour was Spalding Guardian Jeremy Ransome, who said he had always been impressed by the motivation and ambition of the students he had met, and he knew that Peele’s future would be one of success.
He spoke of his association with the Peele Community College after visiting it to take questions from a Citizenship group.
Students had also visited him at the Spalding Guardian offices.
Prizes were presented by Mr Ransome and Simon Gilman, the acting headteacher.
There were musical interludes between each section of prizegiving, which were of a very high calibre. The performers were Monica Basuc, Jack Bliss and Summer Mace. Summer sang No-one But You (Only The Good Die Young) from college’s forthcoming musical, We Will Rock You, which will take place in February next year.
Malandra Baker won the Governors’ Award for Overall Outstanding Performance 2007-2012, while Katie Palmer won the Governors’ KS4 Award for Outstanding Performance.
Katie has achieved not only the best results of 2012, but the best GCSE results the college has ever seen.
Other major presentations were the Christine Barnes Award to Paul Lambe, and the Long Sutton Parish Council Community Service Award to Sophie Moyse, for the excellent work she, together with her family, has done to raise money for the East Anglia Children’s Hospice.
At the end of the evening, there was a vote of thanks from each of the house captains - Connor Phillips from Darwin, Kimberly Weston from Newton and Jade Mace from Bronte.
Refreshments were then served. The mince pies had been produced by Year 9 and 10 students on the Jamie Oliver cooking course, as well as from donations from The Friends of the Peele.
