A motorist said sorry to police for being drunk after crashing his car in the town, a court heard.

Tomasz Badowski (29), of Cross Street, Spalding, was arrested while walking away from his Vauxhall Vectra after colliding with a wall in Love Lane on November 20.

Badowski was banned for 20 months by Spalding magistrates last Thursday after admitting to driving when above the alcohol level limit.

Marie Stace, prosecuting, said Badowski was arrested after police received reports of the collision and found a hole in the wall, as well as debris and rubble in the road.

Mrs Stace said: “Police saw a man walking away and ran to him to ask him to stop.

“Badowski was unsteady on his feet, smelt of alochol and became very emotional as he said ‘I’m so, so sorry to be drunk.’”

A breath test conducted at a police station showed Badowski to have 68 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath when the legal limit is 35 microgrammes.

Mark Hudson, mitigating, said Badowski was “immediately apologetic to police” and feared losing his job as a professional driver because of the ban.

Badowski was fined £110, told to pay costs of £85 and a £20 victim surcharge.
