A pupil at Pinchbeck East Primary School has had an early Christmas present after entering a competition run by a group hoping to provide affordable homes in the village.

Tia Alexander was given a pack of coloured pencils and certificate as one of the runners-up in a competition to design an eco-friendly themed logo for Pinchbeck Community Land Trust (PCLT).

The competition was open to children at Pinchbeck East and St Bartholomew’s Primary School, West Pinchbeck, where overall winner Jacob Cox and other runner-up Freya Peters are both pupils.

Jacob’s logo will be used on PCLT publicity and Sally Slade, vice chairman of the trust’s steering group, said judges were impressed with the high standard of entries.

She added: “We wanted to get across to the children what we’re hoping to do and through the competition, they understood that it’s about providing affordable homes for local people.

“Both schools sent in a significant number of entries which was great and the children understood the whole point of the trust was to help people in the community.”

• Pinchbeck Parish Council has agreed to allow the PLCT to build 14 affordable homes on 1.25 acres of Flaxmill Field.

At last week’s meeting, the parish council heard there is support for the location from South Holland District Council’s housing and planning departments – and both the planning department and county highways favour using the south of the field, with access via Grove Close.

PCLT steering group chairman Steve Colby said some concern remains over the level of grant forthcoming from the Homes and Communities Agency and there may be a need for further lobbying, but the group will continue towards drawing up an outline scheme.
