A 21-year-old Spalding man died on Christmas Day after a vicious attack in which he suffered a fatal head injury.

Police and paramedics were called to Winsover Road at about 1.15pm on Sunday.

The man - Latvian Martin Lipsis, of Broad Street - was treated at the scene before being taken to Pilgrim Hospital in Boston. He died from his injuries on Christmas Day.

A witness said: “I saw two police vans, three cars and about six to eight police officers outside the end house near Masquerade bridal shop on Sunday at about 1.45pm.

“Then on Monday morning at 8am there was still one police car there and two officers guarding the side gate entrance.”

Five men aged 19, 20, 22, 26 and 28 plus a woman aged 28, all of whom live locally, were arrested at the scene on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

They were interviewed and later released on police bail to return to Spalding Police Station tomorrow (Friday).

A post mortem was carried out by a Home Office Pathologist yesterday. It revealed Mr Lipsis died as a result of a head injury and his death is being treated as suspicious. Mr Lipsis’ family and friends have been informed of his death.
