Plans to turn nearly 13 acres of Crowland farmland into a recycling plant for building materials are to be decided at county council level.
Crowland Parish Council raised concerns about extra traffic on the A16 and the environmental impact of plans by John Furlong, of Bourne, for a soil and aggregate production site at Decoy Farm in Spalding Road.
A spokesman for South Holland District Council said: “The view is that the nature of the proposed operation is such that it should be determined by the county council and the applicant should therefore apply to it.”
In a report prepared on behalf of Mr Furlong, the proposed site was described as a “recycling centre for the production of soil and aggregate substitutes for use in the construction and landscaping industries”.
The report went on: “The land is owned and occupied by Mr Furlong and is in agricultural production, although it is fallow for the current cropping year.”
Members of the parish council’s planning committee found no objections to the application “in principle” but did want assurances over the “impact on an already inadequate junction with the A16 and negative environmental impacts on the community”.
