LINCOLNSHIRE Police are stepping up their fight against catalytic convertor thieves with a series of free engraving days.

The police have teamed up with four garages across South Holland to offer people the chance to protect themselves from theft.

Sgt Stuart Brotherton said: “These thefts are becoming more and more common and we want to do everything we can to deter criminals.

“We’ve teamed up with these garages to offer people the chance to get their catalytic convertors engraved for free.

“It takes five minutes and will make thieves think twice.”

To take advantage of the offer, all you have to do is cut out the coupon in the current Spalding Guardian and take it along to one of the four participating garages on the date specified.

Sgt Brotherton said: “There may be a queue but it will be worth waiting for.

“People who have been victims of this crime before will be given priority, along with those drivers who have 4x4s or vehicles that sit high off the ground.

“You must take along a coupon from the newspaper, along with proof of vehicle ownership.”

Garages taking part are:

• Leeson’s, Railway Lane, Sutton Bridge – January 28, 10am-2pm;

• Tear’s, Bridge Road, Sutton Bridge – February 1, 1pm-4pm;

• Bush Tyres, Fulney Road, Spalding, – February 1, 1.30pm-4.30pm;

• Rylatt Ford, Elsoms Way, Pinchbeck – February 2, 1.30pm-4.30pm.
