TEENAGERS have blamed boredom for why they feel Holbeach’s Carter’s Park suffers from vandalism.
A total of 87 out of 148 young people aged between 11 and 15 gave the reason as part of a survey carried out at University Academy Holbeach by the Rotary Club of Holbeach earlier this year.
The results were revealed to members of Holbeach Parish Council last Monday.
The survey also found 21 youngsters felt there was a lack of staff to keep the area tidy, 17 thought drinking alcohol led to vandalism and 28 argued it was down to showing off and stupidity.
The pupils were also asked what improvements they would like in Carter’s Park. A total of 106 were keen to see a skate park, while 81 requested more seating to create meeting areas in the park.
A further 69 suggested play equipment for different age groups would be a good idea, and 43 voted for a tennis court.
Football and rugby posts, toilets and a zip wire also featured on the list.
The survey also asked how equipment should be look after. A graffiti wall was put forward by 34 people, 48 suggested having park rangers and 50 felt CCTV was the answer.
A further 25 thought security fences and gates were needed.
