YOUNGSTERS took a step back in time to discover what it was really like to be an evacuee during World War II.
Years five and six pupils at Spalding’s Monkshouse Primary School made the journey to the Stibbington Centre to help bring their studies about the war to life.
They were each given names of real evacuees from 1940 and experienced a day in their lives, including having to don gas masks at their desks in the centre’s old-style classroom at an authentic 1940s school.
They also experienced an air raid and – on a lighter note – were able to try out a selection of wartime toys.
Year five teacher Tracy Wheatley said: “We had a very interesting day and it has really given them a better understanding of life during World War II.”
