A driver was jailed for 16 weeks for crashing a BMW into two cars and a bus in Spalding’s Halmer Gate and leaving his car on fire.

Matthew Dye (27), of Acacia Avenue, Spalding, was also banned from driving for two years by magistrates sitting at Grantham.

Dye admitted failing to stop after an accident on October 24 when damage was caused to a Volvo S40, a Vauxhall Zafira and a single decker bus.

Magistrates imposed an immediate custodial sentence, deciding the case was so serious because of fear caused to passers-by when he left a car to catch fire.

Dye received no separate penalties for driving without insurance and a licence offence on that day. He pleaded guilty to both.
