Teenager Lucy Poole says she’s not the shy young thing she was when she entered last year’s search for a flower queen.

The 18-year-old from Weston has been on an apprenticeship at the Cley Hall Hotel in Spalding since the summer last year.

Lucy, of High Road, said: “I didn’t make it to the final last year but was chosen to be a butterfly.

“People wouldn’t recognise me this year because I was so shy then. Working front of house has changed all that - I’ll give anyone a run for their money now.”

The search for the 2013 – and last ever – flower queen has started and Lucy is the first hopeful.

She said: “I’d love to be flower queen. Who wouldn’t want to wear a pretty dress?”

You could be part of history by being the last person ever to be crowned Spalding Flower Queen and take your place atop a magnificent floral float as the parade winds its way through the town’s streets for the final time on Saturday, May 4.

To enter you need to be aged 17 or over, live in South Holland and fill in the coupon on this page.

Preliminary interviews will be at Tulip Radio on Thursday, March 7, and five finalists will be invited to a reception at Ayscoughfee Hall on March 15, where the winner will be crowned.

Closing date for entries is Thursday, February 28.
