A nursing home for elderly people in Crowland is to get a quarter of a million pound makeover.

The changes at Abbeygate home, which is part of the Weston Hills-based Broadgate Homes group of companies, will also see the creation of up to 15 new jobs.

The extra staff will be necessary due to the increased capacity of the home, as well as provide support roles and man a newly-created day care centre.

Abbeygate in Crowland can currently cater for 17 people but after the refurbishment will be able to take 24.

As well as the installation of a platform lift, the first floor of the building will be remodelled to create three new “suites”, with bedroom, living area and en suite bathroom, as well as four new large en suite bedrooms.

Ian Canham, of Broadgate, said: “We are now in the throes of a £0.25million refurbishment of the home at Crowland, sprucing it up and basically bringing it into the 21st century.

“We are also pleased that the changes will mean we will create between 12 and 15 new jobs.

“As well as creating the new rooms upstairs we will also re-jig the space downstairs for a day care facility, including lounge and activity room, which people can make use of seven days a week to help them stay independent in their own homes for longer.”

The company also runs the Abbeygate home in Moulton, which has 26 beds, and is hoping to start work on a third home in Spalding’s Wygate Park towards the middle or end of the year.
