A Spalding man accused of raping a schoolgirl in her home while her mother was out has been acquitted.
Today (Friday) the jury at St Albans Crown Court found the 42-year-old man, who had been a friend of the girl’s mum, not guilty of a single charge of rape .
Earlier the man had said the girl’s claims were completely untrue and on the day in question he hadn’t even been to the house in Hemel Hempstead.
The girl, who was 12 at the time, claimed she had been alone in her home in Boxmoor in the town when the defendant called round in August 2011.
She said he had attacked her in the living room of her home.
The man told the jury he had visited the mother and her daughter at their home in the past and he had even stayed there.
But he said in August 2011 he hadn’t visited the home.
