A warehouse that recycles quality secondhand furniture celebrated its first anniversary of successful trading at Fleet Road Industrial Estate, Holbeach on Friday.

The Age UK warehouse was opened last February as a fundraising venture to support a new information/advice service that’s just getting off the ground to serve older people in Spalding, South Holland and Boston.

It’s open to customers from 9.30am to 3.30pm Monday to Friday and 9am to 1pm on Saturday, and has been so successful in attracting donations that it’s already taken on a second big shed to store the overflow and has bought its own van to pick up donations.

Liz Walmsley of Age UK Spalding and District, which teamed up with the charity’s Boston and South Holland branch on the venture, said: “It’s gone just brilliantly. People have been giving us really good quality used furniture and there are a lot of people who want to buy.

“It’s staffed by a part-paid, part-volunteer manager and volunteers and there’s been a phenomenal interest. The manager, my husband Richard, goes out to see goods we’re offered and has very rarely refused anything because it’s all so good.

“We’ve found that G-Plan furniture from the 50s, 60s and 70s sells remarkably well and so do good, clean beds.”

The local Age UK in formation/advice service is in its early stages with one adviser already in-post on Monday, Wednesday and Fridays who can be reached for now on 01775 720305, and a dedicated helpline starting soon.

Furniture donors or volunteers please phone Richard Walmsley on 079468 37133.
