Thomas Cowley High School caught the rhythm on Friday when students were treated to a performance by rap group South Finesse.
Students at the Donington school were visited by members of the Berkshire-based group, Emmie Jay, Melodee, Lynx and O’Slick, as part of a 20-leg UK schools tour promoting their new single Take Me Away.
The group put on a one-hour show before answering questions from their new fans who were later given signed photographs and a chance to try out their rapping skills.
Teaching assistant Fay Houltby said: “South Finesse is a versatile UK urban group with a fresh, unique sound and the school was very fortunate in securing one of the last two slots available on the band’s national schools tour.
“All Years Seven and Eight students, along with 34 GCSE music students, had this fantastic opportunity to experience South Finesse before they break into the big time, although all the students had heard of them before.
“They were really keen and three of students actually taking the microphone themselves to do their own solo raps on stage.
“South Finesse group members were really impressed and said our students were very talented.”
