Pat Luckett is hoping some women might be interested in going to the open evening – and in joining the club.

Pat was the first female member in 2010 and at first was the only woman in the club of 40 men.

Pat, due to become president next year, says: “Sometimes it is difficult when you are working full time, but we would like younger members. With any organisation you take on as much responsibility as you can find time for.

“A lot of people have this misconception about Rotary that it’s a gentlemen’s club and possibly in past years it’s been guilty of that, but now it’s not like that at all. Service and fellowship are the two mainstays of Rotary.”

Pat, formerly deputy head at the Priory School, has been able to raise the profile of special needs within Rotary, assisted with competitions for youngsters and forged links with a special school in the Philippines during a two-week visit by Rotarians tracking down medical equipment.
