Improved medical facilities, a heritage centre and new market area are among the items on a wishlist for developing Holbeach over the next 20 years.
A new roundabout at the A151/A17 junction, the transformation of Chequers yard into a shopping area and new housing are also included in a nine-point action plan for the district between 2013-2031.
A strategic plan for Holbeach, setting out how the area can draw new residents and businesses whilst keeping its cultural identity, was presented to parish councillors by Lincolnshire County Council for the town, Coun Nick Worth, at a meeting last Monday.
The document covers neighbourhood planning, strategic priorities and an action plan drawn up by a steering group of residents, traders, parish, district and county councillors.
Holbeach Parish Council will consider the document over the coming weeks and discuss it during the Annual Parish Meeting at Holbeach Reading Rooms on March 11 and another meeting at Holbeach St Marks Village Hall on April 15.
Coun Worth said: “The plan has come about through the Government giving new powers to local councils to produce a Neighbourhood Development Plan, giving a clear vision for the whole parish over the next 20 years.
“But such a plan is incredibly complex and costly, so the steering group decided to do a strategic plan for Holbeach instead that will be taken into consideration when determining planning applications.
“It’s a pretty general document outlining nine strategic priorities, none of which should be a surprise to the people of Holbeach.”
The plan also includes the promotion of educational facilities such as University Academy Holbeach and the University of Lincoln’s food manufacturing campus in the town.
