MORE than 300 people watched as the Lord Lieutenant of Lincolnshire, Tony Worth, opened the £500,000 community centre at Sutton Bridge on Saturday.
Known as The Curlew Centre, the building has features including a multi-purpose hall, a meeting room and reception area, a police office, space for rent and a nursery on the first floor.
Joining Mr Worth at the opening were South Holland and The Deepings MP John Hayes and district council chairman Coun Mick Seymour.
Guests and visitors alike enjoyed seeing the new centre and all it has to offer. They also enjoyed live music and refreshments.
On Sunday hundreds of children turned out for their first big event at the centre, dancing at a disco and meeting Father Christmas.
Curlew Centre chairman Peter Clery summed up the opening in one word: “Brilliant.”
He said: “It was wonderful to see so many people enjoying themselves and I want to say a great big thank you to all those involved.”
l The community beat manager for Sutton Bridge, PC Laura Griggs, said although not a permanently staffed office, the police room will provide the neighbourhood policing team with an excellent base to hold community engagement events.
