Parish, district and county councillors in Holbeach have united to call for a junction in the town to be made safer.

They want to see a roundabout at Peppermint Junction where the A151 and A17 meet after a series of accidents there over the last five years.

The most recent scare was on Sunday when four people, including a five-month-old child, escaped serious injury after two cars collided at the junction.

Figures from Lincolnshire Road Safety Partnership show that in the last five years, two serious and nine slight injury collisions took place at Peppermint Junction.

Coun Terry Harrington, vice chairman of Holbeach Parish Council, said: “We’ve made every attempt to get a roundabout there and this sort of incident makes us more determined to push for it.

South Holland District Council member for Holbeach Town, Coun Martin Howard, said: “We’ve been trying for years to get a roundabout or reduce the speed of traffic because that’s the problem.”

Lincolnshire County Council member for Holbeach, Coun Nick Worth, said: “A roundabout is going to cost about £1.5 million but this latest accident emphasises the need for the county council to stump up the money and get on with it.”
