Rescued girl guide troop recruiting new members

The First Holbeach Guides are back in business since two potential leaders stepped up to save the troop.

Lone guide leader Sarah Richardson appealed for help through the Spalding Guardian when she faced having to stop because it’s against the rules to manage with only one adult.

Now she’s appealing again – to girls aged 10 upwards who might fancy joining the 15 guides already having fun at the weekly meetings on Monday nights.

Trainee teacher Sarah said: “Last summer I had 25 guides who would have been devastated if I couldn’t find adults who would commit to being leaders.

“We were really lucky that two people came forward – Gill Young, who’d been a guide leader before in London, and Angela Whenman, a young mum who’s training as a leader.

“Now we’re all set and are able to plan activities outside of meetings in the guide hut – we’re off go-karting this weekend and have fixed up a camp near Grantham for May – and numbers have dropped as they always do every year as the older girls leave us.

“So we’re recruiting for new guides aged 10 to 15.

“It’s a safe environment and we have a great crowd of girls who enjoy getting together to socialise and plan their own activities with other girls outside of school – and have fun!”
