Spalding Flower Queen hopeful Rebecca Ransom was on the phone to us even before her envelope had been opened to make sure we’d received her entry before this week’s final deadline.
Rebecca (21), of Holland Way, Holbeach, said: “I just couldn’t risk not having the chance to be Flower Queen, especially as this is the last year of the parade.”
A former pupil of Sir John Gleed School, she said she entered the Flower Princess competition every year when she was younger and always wanted to be Flower Queen when she was old enough.
You could well see her designing her own ‘throne’ if she is lucky enough to be chosen as she is a furniture and product design student at Nottingham Trent University.
Currently on a work placement as assistant designer at Willis and Gambia, of Peterborough, she insists there is no place like home.
She said: “I still have my weekend job in Spalding at Superdrug because I love it here.
“Of course, I’d like to take my career as far as I can and travel the world, but I always love coming home.
“The scenery here is beautiful, especially along the river bank, and everyone is so friendly. I’d love to be Flower Queen and spread the word about how great Lincolnshire is.”

The lucky girl, aged 17 or over, will take her place atop a magnificent floral float on Saturday, May 4.
To enter you need to live in South Holland and fill in the coupon in Tuesday’s edition of the Lincolnshire Free Press.
Preliminary interviews will be at Tulip Radio on Thursday, March 7, and five finalists will be invited to a reception at Ayscoughfee Hall on March 15, where the willer will be crowned.
