South Holland residents are being urged to take some simple steps to protect themselves from mobile phone thieves.
Lincolnshire Police has issued a six-point plan to cut the number of mobile phones stolen in the county, including thefts from vehicles which showed a 32 per cent reduction in South Holland this year compared to the same period 12 months ago.
Advice includes never leaving bags or other valuables unattended in public places, being discreet when using a mobile phone and not to walk and text at the same time.
Police are also suggesting the use of new technology by downloading applications that can trace a lost or stolen phone by a GPS tracking system.
Sgt Caroline Broughton from Lincolnshire Police’s community safety department said: “Everyone can help in reducing the number of mobile phones that are stolen by just taking a few simple steps.
“These include taking particular care of your phone at bars, cafes, coffee shops, restaurants and music venues, all targeted by thieves, and being aware of your surroundings when making a call in public places.
“Also keep calls as brief as possible because the longer you talk, the more likely you are to be spotted by a potential thief.”
