Women in the know have started finding their way to little Moulton Chapel for hair-styling they could expect to pay a lot more money for in town.
They’re heading for Cherish, launched the first week of December in her home village by great hairdresser Julie Pickwell, who spent the previous 20 years as a stylist in one of Spalding’s top salons.
Julie has her first baby, seven-month-old Sonny, to think about so commuting into Spalding isn’t an option, but when the modern purpose-built salon next to Moulton Chapel’s Jolly Farmer pub fell vacant, she snapped it up.
Julie said: “My first priority is Sonny, but at the same time I love working with people to achieve their dream hairstyle and I just couldn’t give that up for long.
“Cherish is the best of both worlds as I open only Thursday, Friday and Saturday and am able to be here for Sonny as well as turning into a full-time mum four days a week.
“It’s good for clients because I can give them a one-to-one experience, yet I charge a fraction of the price.”
Julie offers a free initial consultation to new clients. Over coffee they can discuss what they want and what’s achievable.
Over her long career she has specialised in quality colouring, precision cutting and put-ups and one-off styles for weddings and special occasions.
Already she’s been booked for her first wedding this summer and welcomes organising trial dates for brides and bridesmaids a fortnight ahead as well as fitting them all in on the big day.
She also offers gift vouchers, and did very well with these when she was furiously busy up to Christmas.
She said: “Without doing any advertising, word got around and local people from around the village and former clients have found me somehow!”
