A man admitted assaulting his wife during a row in the early hours of the morning.

Mark Ferguson (28) denied punching his wife Katherine fives times, as the prosecution claimed, but accepted her injuries were as a result of her “colliding with the table” during a tussle in the kitchen, solicitor Mike Alexander told Spalding magistrates.

John Clare, prosecuting, read from Mrs Ferguson’s statement in which she described being pushed in the chest, punched in the face and falling against the kitchen table. It was Ferguson’s second assault on his wife.

Magistrates today (Thursday) decided the difference between the prosecution and defence accounts would not make a difference to their sentence and not to hold a special hearing at which evidence would be called.

Ferguson was bailed for sentence to April 11 with conditions that he must not return home to Woodview, Bourne, or contact his wife.
