Shoppers are being told it will be business as usual when resurfacing works take place through the heart of Pinchbeck.
Darryl Cross, of the Spar shop in Knight Street, claims signs that have gone up saying the road will be closed on weekdays between April 2 and 6 are misleading.
He said: “There is no doubt the road needs resurfacing as it is full of potholes, but my understanding is that it is going to be done in sections.
“That means there will be access by car to the shops in Knight Street at all times – from the main road while the bottom section is done and from Rose Lane while the section near the Bull is done.
“I believe the road will then be open at the weekend, although they are trying to discourage people from parking here because they intend to paint the lines on the road on the Monday.
“There is obviously going to be some inconvenience but drivers will be able to get here and I’m a bit upset at the council for saying the road will be closed as it will affect our businesses.
“People will decide to make alternative arrangements and go elsewhere to do their shopping.”
Lincolnshire County Council says the work will be carried out on weekdays from 7am to 5.30pm, weather permitting.
Martyn Allen, network and development manager, said: “It is important that we resurface Knight Street – no road can last forever.
“The footpaths on the road will be open at all times so residents will be able to access local businesses and shops as normal.”
