More cuts could be on the way for Lincolnshire Police with a Government minister saying the Ministry of Defence and the Home Office will share the pain of planned £11.5billion savings in 2015-2016.
Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander, who made the comments in an interview with The Daily Telegraph, also said public protests against the cuts would not influence the outcome of forthcoming talks in the Cabinet.
While the news will be tough on the military and the police, there’s a silver lining for those claiming benefits as the minister says the Government will not allow further cuts to benefit payments.
The Lincolnshire force has claimed for many years that it is under-funded and central Government cash does not take account of the problems of policing a big, rural county.
Lincolnshire Police and Crime Commissioner Alan Hardwick said: “I cannot obviously make a comment until such time as it becomes reality, if it does. It may be from Mr Alexander, but until I see actual documents I cannot comment.”
