BOSTON’S Pilgrim Hospital has been chosen to be a specialist vascular unit.

It will be one of a small number of regional specialist centres dedicated to carrying out more operations to treat vascular diseases.

The unit will be developed over the next year and will use the latest technology to diagnose and treat patients using techniques such as bypass operations on the leg arteries and surgery to clear arteries to prevent strokes.

Patients will still receive diagnostic tests, be seen as outpatients and day-cases at their local hospitals throughout the county but all inpatient surgery will take place at the new unit at Boston.

Consultant vascular surgeon Jayarama Mohan said: “The team at Pilgrim are committed to providing the best quality of service and care to each of our patients, and I believe the new improvements will allow us to build on the success of the current unit.”
