On-duty firefighters in Spalding could soon be snoozing in comfort with plans for a new accomodation block at the town’s station.
Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue has applied to South Holland District Council for planning permission for a two-storey building with five en suite bedrooms along with living room and kitchen/dining room.
The plans follow a review by the fire service of its response capability across the county which resulted in an increase in the number of stations staffed 24 hours a day by wholetime firefighters from two to nine.
Six stations were brought on line in 2012 and Spalding is in the next phase.
As part of the changes a new duty system was introduced and accommodation is needed for crews to provide cover between 6.30pm and 7.30am.
