A man of 64 left his car and his wife at the scene of a crash because he had an errand to run at the bank.

Tony Bailey went off to Lloyds TSB following the accident on the A17 and A1101 roundabout at Long Sutton, magistrates heard.

Bailey, of Sees Lane, Four Gotes, Tydd, was fined £70 and ordered to pay costs of £50 when he pleaded guilty to failing to stop and give driver details at the time of the accident on December 13.

He must also pay a £20 victim surcharge.

Mark Holmes, prosecuting, told Spalding magistrates on Thursday that Bailey was involved in a collision with a lorry.

His solicitor, Ngaa Zivuku, said Bailey left his car behind – and his wife – and was not trying to evade detection.
