New life for Long Sutton’s major hotels

Massive injections of cash will breathe new life into two of Long Sutton’s closed hotels – and the town itself.

Work is expected to start this year on renovating and extending the Crown and Woolpack, in High Street, and plans are in hand for a big overhaul at The Bull Hotel over the road on the corner of Market Place.

The Bull has stood empty for more than ten years. Five years ago The Bull was on the brink of a £1million re-development, but Long Sutton and District Civic Society chairman Bobbie Ashton said work came to a halt “when the bottom dropped out of the finance market”.

Bull developer Jan Von Draczek included 27 apartments in his plans last time and now he’s seeking consent for 39.

The Crown and Woolpack hotel and restaurant project has won planning consent, but Korvin Developments – Jan Von Draczek’s company – is awaiting the go-ahead.

Mrs Ashton said: “When we get these two done, we are going to be the posh end of South Holland. They are going to be absolute assets.

“The town is already starting to look really nice because other buildings have been sympathetically repaired and made good.”
